Modern Art

The history of art is traced back to cave paintings of regarding 15000 BC.

The nature of paintings modified little till around 1450 AD, when the Renaissance brought-about naturalistic styles and formal rules of composition, such as perspective (Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, etc).

Following the Renaissance, new styles emerged every 50 to one hundred years, but nothing considerably modified (e.g. the foundations of perspective were still applied).

In 1874, Impressionism was born (Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, etc). The term was originally used to form fun of Claude Monet's painting "Impression: Sunrise", but was adopted by artists to describe their style of work. the general public are accustomed to Impressionism, thus i'll not waste words describing the fashion, and move on.

At the top of the 1800s, Impressionism spawned Post Impressionism (Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, etc). whereas Impressionism had remained faithful to nature, Post Impressionism favoured brighter and a lot of unnatural colours.

Next we had Abstraction, where artists (Modigliani, Picasso, etc) modified the appearance of their subject thus it now not looked realistic, by shifting the purpose of read, exaggeration, simplification, etc.

At the risk of over simplifying things myself - Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism, and Dada all quickly followed, and were variations on Abstraction. It’s the Dada artists that i need to put in writing regarding.

In 1916, the Dada movement was fashioned amidst despair and revulsion arising from the horrors of World War I. Dada art was intentionally anti-aesthetic, and sought to reject all rules and conventions. many Dada artists thought of their work to be anti-art, and to own the purpose of enraging their audiences.

The single most influential Dada artist was arguably Marcel Duchamp.

Conceptual Art springs from the “Fountain”

As a young boy, Duchamp aspired to become an artist, and took classes in tutorial drawing. He worked in the styles of the time (Post Impressionism, Cubism, etc), but didn't achieve recognition, until 1917, when his notorious ‘Fountain’ modified the face of art.

“Fountain” was a signed urinal. Duchamp claimed it to be a work of art that he had created, because; he chose it, he gave it a name, he placed it in a completely different context, and created a new thought for that object.

In December 2004, Duchamp's Fountain was voted the most influential artwork of the 20th century by 500 selected British art world professionals. The freelance noted in a February 2008 article that with this single work, Duchamp invented conceptual art and "severed forever the standard link between art and merit".

Each person needs to draw his or her own conclusions, but these are mine

Duchamp was taking the "p" (urinal!).

He was an art anarchist, and his aim was to break the art institution. sadly the art institution evolved to embrace his prank, and allowed Duchamp to attain his goal.

Perhaps this happened as a result of Duchamp presented a chance for those equally without skill to enter a world previously closed to them? whatever, over ninety years later, our art galleries, art awards, and media coverage are all filled with "fountains", and the objective of our most notorious present day "artists" still appears to be enraging their audiences. fashionable art has become a awfully weary joke.

Reasoning that anything is art is not any completely different to saying that everything is everything. History has even been rewritten, and the cave paintings currently typically given a new conceptual twist: they weren't decoration, but an early variety of communication.

Detractors of modern art are typically shot down. after we voice our views we are sometimes patronisingly told that we don’t love it as a result of we don’t comprehend it. I do perceive … I honestly do!

The point i am attempting to form is that conceptual art is one very small and polarised viewpoint. It doesn't render all different points of read invalid.

Isn't it time for a change soon?

How to Sketch a Car

Before you start drawing, it's important to pick the right reference image for your drawing. Browse through websites on the Internet or make a search on Google using the image search feature. Or you may wish to select an image from your own personal collection of car magazines.
Whichever way you use to choose the reference image, always remember to choose an image that's well suited for your own skill level. If you don't feel comfortable drawing complicated stuff, choose an image with simple shapes and forms. However, if you think you can take on something more challenging, by all means, go ahead and pick something that's more complicated.
An example of a complicated car image is one of a car sitting under a tree. The shadows made by the leaves on the tree will cast lots of wierd looking shadows on the car. If tackled correctly, the shadows actually enhance the drawing but if you do not feel you have the skill or time to draw complicated shapes, leave them out.
Once you've selected the reference image, it's now time to transfer the image to the drawing paper. You may use the grid method to do this. By drawing matching grids on the reference image and the blank drawing paper, you should be able to transfer the exact form to the drawing paper without any major problems. Keep the lines light as you draw and watch the shape form. Correct any lines with a dust free eraser as you draw.
When you're done with the outline, you may start working on the details like the windows, car doors, etc. You should still be working lightly as the drawing is still in its early stages. Do not remove the grid lines just yet. Continue to work on the proportions and the general shape and form of the car until you're satisfied with it.
Begin giving the drawing different grey values by shading. To do this, you need sketch pencils with different values. I recommend using pencils from 2B to 8B. Pressure application can darken the shades as well, but it's not as effective as using a pencil that's dark naturally.

Since the body of a car is metallic, it's important to use blends and highlight to show case the body of th car. This requires skill and practice. Once you're done with the shading, apply the finishing touches by removing any unwanted lines (like the grid lines) and rework any areas that didn't turn out too well.

Keep working on the finishing touches until you're completely satisfied with the final output.

Humanities - Chicago Art Institute - Museum

The public event relating to Western Humanities that I chose to attend was the Museum of the Chicago Art Institute. I spent most of my time there exploring the permanent collection of the museum. The Art Institute of Chicago, was founded in 1879. At first it was both a museum and school, and stood on the southwest corner of State and Monroe Streets. It opened on its present site at Michigan Avenue and Adams Street in 1893. The collection of the museum now includes more than 5,000 years of human expression from cultures around the world, The museum had a very large collection of artworks from all different periods of time. Some of the pieces of art that I found interesting and fascinated me were: Virgin and Child with the Young Saint John the Baptist, and the Reliquary Casket of Saints Adrian and Natalia.

Virgin and Child with the Young Saint John the Baptist was a very interesting painting. The author of this painting is Antonio Allegri, also known as Correggio. This painting is from c. 1515. This painting includes the Virgin, Christ, and John. The painting shows a meeting between Jesus Christ and Saint John the Baptist while they were kids. Mary has the contrapposto pose. She encloses the children with her arms. Although there is no biblical account of a meeting between the infants Christ and John, scenes showing their encounter often appear in Renaissance and Baroque painting to foreshadow their relationship as adults.

The Reliquary Casket of Saint Andria and Natalia was an amazing piece of art. The casket shows the gruesome fate of Saint Adrian on three sides. Beginning with the short side on the left, Saint Adrian bravely declares his belief in Christianity. He is then brutally attacked and dismembered on both long sides, and on the last short side, Andrian's wife Natalia sails to Constantinople with his salvaged hand. This was a really amazing, and memorable, piece of art. I have never seen anything like it before and I will never forget it.

I really enjoyed my trip to the Chicago Art Institute. I was impressed by all the forms of art that the museum had on display. I never knew that so many things from so long ago were still around, at least here in the United States. It is actually quite interesting how pieces of history from all around the world end up in a museum so far from their place of origin. The reason why I chose to attend this public event over the other options that I had to choose from is simple: I always wanted to go to the museum and look at different forms of art and explore the historical aspects of the artworks and where they came from and I finally had a chance to go. I have been to a couple museums as a little kid, but I do not remember much. This was my first time as a young adult to a museum. When I came back from the museum, I told my parents about my trip and they were very interested in seeing the artworks themselves, which they did about a month later. They also liked the collections a lot and were impressed by everything they saw.

I would give this event a five star rating. It was a great opportunity to see lots of different art works all in one place. There are lots of knowledgeable guides who help visitors on their visits. Upon request, a tour of the museum can be set up. The museum has discounts for children under 12, students, and Seniors (65 and up), and free admissions on Thursdays, which make it even more attractive. Throughout the year, there are all kinds of different art exhibits that are not part of the museums permanent collection. I think that my time spent in the museum was well worth it. I saw many different types of art forms and got to admire their beauty in person. I would recommend the Chicago Art Institute Museum to anyone who likes humanities and is interested in the history of the world. As a matter of fact, I think that everyone in their lifetime should visit a museum. The museum provides lots of historical pieces that help understand certain ideas from the past.

In conclusion, the Chicago Art Institute is a great place to explore the world of Humanities. In my opinion, every student of Humanities should pay a visit to this or other museum sometime within their course to gain a better understanding of what they are learning. Going to the Chicago Art Institute is also a great way to spend some quality time with your family and at the same time learn about the earths historical people and artifacts.

Design Trends in Hand-painted Ceramic Art Tile

Everyone who has some major redesigning ideas for their kitchen or bath has a secret desire to know what OTHER people are doing. Even if they do not have any intention of imitating or copying others' ideas, they still want to believe their ideas are not too far out.

The last couple years have been exciting for hand-painted tile. The overwhelming trend for kitchen and bathroom tile murals has been tropical fish. In multi-tile scenes with their natural environment of corals and rocks, and in single accent tiles to scatter around the room for effect, more people chose fish as their design theme than any other subject.

One reason for the popularity of tropical fish as a design theme, I believe, is because there is such a huge variety of colors that any preconceived color scheme can be accommodated with some or other species, no matter what. Even if blue/green is the main color, the fish can float in their natural color background with no distracting rocks or brightly colored corals.

Another reason could be because the idea for hand-painted tiles to beautifully accent a room's decor often comes, in typical human fashion, AFTER the basic colors have already been chosen. What theme has so many colors to match with as tropical fish?

They are also great as an abstract theme as well. They are as wonderful in a whimsical, cartoonish style as they are in a realistic style. Kids love the fun ones in their tub and shower walls. Adults seem to like the more somber, darker colored abstracts, such as the copper-colored weather-vane look, with a greenish patina, an awesome mural in the kitchen!

Silhouettes are popular too. Many fish species have a distinct profile that is easily recognizable in silhouette. Use varying colors and the effect is marvelous! Interspersed with silhouettes of other sea items like coral, shells, and other nautical items, and you have a one-of-a-kind art theme in your own special space.

Believe it or not, even dead fish, done in a realistic style, can be painted to look excellent, rather like the way they look laid out in a market bin. It has a "French poster" look to it that goes very well in some country-style decors. Of course, this style works best with food fish, as opposed to tropical fish species.

There really is no end to the marvelous themes and schemes that can be created using fish as a basic motif, whether food, game or tropical fish are used. Work with a tile artist who is open to all your ideas and she will create a magical space that will be tireless and timeless.

I believe that with so many people catching on to the fish theme, this will be the hottest trend for years to come. Especially within all-white tile walls, the bright colors set off anything and everything you wish to accesorize, and these things can be changed every year and your tile will always have a color within that matches.

Famous Different Kinds of Art Galleries

When it comes to art galleries you will find lots varieties as there are different kinds of art existing. Commonly, an art gallery comprises of precise focus and further managed by a custodian who expertise in such kind of art. General concerns of art galleries comes from particular area, art in a particular medium or singular style, or also art from specific focus such as political art. Characteristically, any art in an art gallery is for sale, even though the gallery might hold on to an extraordinary permanent set, or sponsor an exclusive display of art.

Most of the art galleries are public, in the sense that any person could walk inside the art gallery and but the desired art. In general, public galleries host often openings and willingly promote their company. Many artists get their kick start at common public art galleries only, which could sell work on fee or buy work from an artist and resell it later. On the other hand, some of the art galleries, yet, are private, in the sense that you need to be a member if you wish to enter. Private art galleries demonstrate high-end art, and support bountiful openings.

Some of the art galleries have custodians which usually concentrate on art from a particular region or exact period. Examples of regions might comprise of European art, Australian aboriginal art, and other Chinese art, Asian art on the whole or African art. At times the regional spotlight would be very restricted; an art gallery may only show Peruvian textiles, for instance. During other times, the focus is in fact more on general, and is intended to comprise a huge range of creative styles from a wide-ranging area of the globe. In some cases, an art gallery only carries art from an exact period in history. This is particularly common with modern art galleries, which display first and foremost modern art.

Generally, art galleries would be devoted to a meticulous medium like furniture, oil painting, jewels, picture making, monument, textiles, or other pottery. The medium might be exact to an area or time period, or it might be a more universal collection of works in, which medium. Frequently the art on show is from a huge variety of performers, permitting collectors of, which medium to discover newcomers to the area and buy a variety of art.

Another usual kind of art gallery is a kind of gallery that has an exact educational focus. That focus may be political, chronological, or could be medium based. For instance, an art gallery might prefer to only show contemporary comic art. Another art gallery may offer work done in twentieth century by Jewish artists, or show political pictures from African refugees. These galleries are characteristically open to members of the public, to support cultural education and other enrichment.

Body Painting

Body Painting

Artists find the body of women as an intriguing and unique subject matter, well, this genereally gets the approval of a lot of men, artist or not. Because of this, body painting with women subjects has become popular especially in today's times. There is even a festival for body painting and painters from all over the world are looking forward to join these events.

Body painting is considered a delicate art form. In fact, this kind of painting was developed many years ago.

Tribes of our yesteryears performed body painting during special ceremonies. Some tribes do body painting merely for aesthetic purposes. However, our ancestors did not use paints like the ones sold in markets today. They used natural pigments and clay to do body painting. Today, body painting is still being practiced, particularly with Mehndi. This body painting form makes use of henna dyes and this is very popular in the western countries. An example is a semi-permanent henna tattoo.

During the 1960's, body painting was very popular as an art form. Back then, the social acceptability of this art form was always in question and in fact, experts conduct endless discussions about it. More often, body painting involves nudity and because of this, the art form is questioned by the norms of the society. In body painting, you don't just use any kind of paint. The use of body paints is restricted to some guidelines – the paint should be non-allergenic and non-toxic. Artists should only use paints that can be easily washed with water and ordinary soaps.

As mentioned earlier, there are semi-permanent body paints like those used in Mehndi. It uses natural and synthetic henna. The natural shade is available in brown color while the synthetic is black. For safe body painting, one should use the natural henna or the brown dye. If you use the black synthetic dye, allergic reactions can occur. However, if you want to use the black dye, a patch test should first be conducted to make sure that it is safe to be used by the subject.

So now you know a bit of body painting's background. If you want to practice body painting, you can enroll in certain classes. Presently, nudity in works of art is but natural. It is more acceptable now unlike many years ago. Women are no longer ashamed to be used as subjects in body painting. Besides, most women are paid with huge sums of money with a single session.

For starters, you should practice body painting with someone that you're comfortable with. A friend or even a loved one can do but it will be a lot easier if you practice in a class so that you don't have to worry about the woman subject you need. Body painting is a special kind of art that requires years of practice before you can become an expert in the field. While you're still in the learning process, you have to continue your research. The internet can provide you with all the resources you need. You simply have to spend enough time to research and study so that you will know all the valuable information you need.

You should be open to the possibility of nude body painting with women subjects. Your mind should be free from inhibitions so that you too can create a beautiful work of art. In time, you will be ready to join the festival for body painting where your skills can be recognized all over the world.

To investigate effects of fluoride on lead adsorption by iron-oxide-coated sand (IOCS). Fluoride concentration varies at 0.5, 1.0 and 10 ppm from pH 4 to 10. At the same pH range, ionic strength varies at 0, 0.05 and 0.10 M. Lead and fluoride adsorption by IOCS could saturate within 24 hours. Lead adsorption would decline if the initial lead concentration increased. In contrast, fluoride adsorption would raise if the initial fluoride concentration increased. Both lead and fluoride adsorption was the function of pH. Lead adsorption was good from pH 5 to 8 and pH 6 was the optimum. fluoride adsorption was good at the low pH from 4 to 5 and it was worse for higher pH. lonic strength was not affected to Lead adsorption so Lead adsorption was the inner-sphere surface complex. After the experiment, adsorption of the lead and fluoride mixture was similar to lead or fluoride adsorption by IOCS. Therefore, fluoride adsorption would be the outer-sphere surface complex. And the optimal condition for lead and fluoride removal was at the 1/10 of lead/fluoride portion by mole and pH 6. When IOCS was applied for lead adsorption from the industrial wastewater. The optimal condition was different from the laboratory. The optimal pH was at 8 that was higher than the experimental pH because lead adsorption may be affected by the contamination of these industrial wastewater
